Everyone needs a studio buddy. Here’s mine. His name is Mac, and he’s a very good boy.

About

As a freelancer, my designs have been seen in various venues across the country. I was the Resident Set Designer and Props Master for Ocean State Theatre Company’s inaugural season 2012-2013; Resident Set Designer for Ohio Light Opera (2008-2015); and first Design Assistant at The Denver Center Theatre Company for the 2006-2008 seasons. I also worked at the Cleveland Play House, where I cut my teeth as a scenic artist for the 2002-2003 season.

I have been working as a freelance scenic artist since 2000, have created public art in Arkansas and Tulsa, and have been commissioned as a fine artist and muralist. Additionally, I have worked professionally as a props master, event designer and coordinator, graphic designer, and exhibit designer. I have also taught in the Theatre Departments at The University of Missouri Kansas City, The University of Arkansas, Coastal Carolina University, The University of Tulsa, and Colby College.

More recently, I am a member of a team (which included Kimille Howard, John D. Alexander, and Danielle Preston) that won the coveted R.L.Tobin Director-Designer Prize in 2023 for our conception of Sweeney Todd. I received my Master of Fine Arts degree from Kent State University and am a proud member of United Scenic Artists Local 829.

Last, but certainly not least, I am a lover of running, cycling, and being in nature; and I am a very proud mom to both a dog and a human, as well as a partner to my taller half.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I am a visual storyteller with over 20 year of experience working in theatre. I believe storytelling is the connective tissue within relationships: stories that we tell about ourselves or to ourselves; stories about what we believe our communities to be; and stories that we hear from others. These stories can bring us together or tear us apart. They can be the foundation for oppression or a force for activism. My work as a visual artist explores this tension and questions what we think we know versus what assumptions we make and biases we hold. I want to generate conversation and encourage storytelling, which creates stronger connections and more authentic relationships. With this foundation, I aim to create visual art that shows the wholeness of a person, place, or object in a specific moment in time, whether that medium be through set design for the theatre or mixed media.
